SKIN: |
| ``Thick, abundant and loose all over the body, particularly on the head where it forms numerous folds and wrinkles, and at the lower part of the neck where it forms a double dewlap``. As the skin was the first protector of muscles and vital organs, we need to adhere to the standard. Skin should be useful not troublesome to the dog. No doubt about it. Dewlap, as standard says,`` Lower edge of the neck is well endowed with loose skin which forms a double dewlap well separated, but not exaggerated``. |
| So every part, should be functional ! |
HAIRCOATNature of the Hair: short, stiff, hard, and dense, of uniform length and smoothness all over the body, it is fine, and measures 1.5 cm (one inch) maximum in length. There must not be any trace of fringe anywhere.HAIR: |

Here, I wish to add only one more important thing. In every part of the standard explaining colours, there was never any mention of ``light grey`` or `` pale grey``. In my opinion, when things aren't deeply coloured in Nature , it shows to us, it is disappearing, not good. No where in Nature, You will find such light-paleness colour . So through colouration , we see the first sign of healthiness and reproductive ability . Something that is poorly coloured is often of low genetic potential , lacking in immunity and with out the help of man , will not be able to mate . So, my opinion, for good perspective breeding program, would be to use dark dogs, deeply coloured , as shadows in the night. |
COLOUR: Preferred colours are: grey, leaden grey and black, but also brown, fawn and deep fawn (red deer), with, sometimes, little white patches on the chest and on the tip of the toes. All these coats may be brindled; hazel, dove-grey and Isabella shades are tolerated. |

Standard is very clear and precise, with only some tolerance. Have to add one fact, a well muscled Neo, is for sure heavier than a fat one, as muscles are 5. times heavier then fat, on the same proportion. Here, I wish to mention same text by mr. Mario Zacchi in his book-The Neapolitan Mastiff... |
..., no more need to be said. |
